Wayne Kines

We have received a letter from  David Kines  with the sad news that long time Media Club member and friend, Wayne Kines, died on August 14. The letter, written on behalf of himself, his brothers – Peter, Andrew and Stephen – and Wayne’s wife, Deva,  reads as follows.

Wayne Locksley Kines

Hello vast network of friends, colleagues, and relatives of Mr. Telephone, Mr. Tabloid-tabloid-tabloid, and connector-networker-communicator extraordinaire, a.k.a. Wayne Kines, a.k.a. WAYNE KINES.

After navigating the pandemic and some declining mental acuity issues over the last few years, this afternoon (August 14) Wayne succumbed to a recent series of physical challenges. He was at his home in Gatineau, Quebec, with caring wife Deva-Marie at his side.

Wayne had a prodigious memory with the ability to recall, in remarkable detail (and at great length!), the time and place of meeting various people in his orbit, no matter how long ago said meeting occurred. This trait persisted to the end, and rest assured he remembered all of you!

We will each miss his love, inspiration, dad jokes, deaf jokes, guidance, misguidance, appetite both for food and friendships, that twinkle in his eye and his companionship.

A virtual memorial will be scheduled in the months ahead, and his ashes will be buried in Tummel, just outside of his hometown of Roblin, Manitoba, Canada.

This bio and the one below capture Wayne’s primary goals in life very nicely. He wanted to leave the planet in better shape than when he arrived more than 87 years ago, and we think he succeeded!

Wayne Locksley Kines – June 10, 1935-August 14, 2022

Wayne was a long time club member and volunteer, as was his previous wife, who died tragically in a car accident early this century and who was our club’s executive secretary for a number of years.

Wayne Kines’ wife, Deva, wrote:

“We are considering a Celebration of Life for Wayne in late October, in Ottawa.”
