Shirley Van Dusen was profiled by Joel Haslem on the CTV’s 6p.m. newscast on November 15. The interview centered around her rediscovering some old preliminary sketches she had made of John Diefenbaker prior to painting his portrait many years ago. Shirley, whose book called The Mother’s Day Monkey was published in 2010 by Burnstown Publishing, is writing another book. But this one will only be shared with family members.

Susan Hallett, European editor of Taste and Travel magazine, has published a second cookbook. Called Cooking for Love, Exotic and Erotic Recipes for People in Love, the book is a collection of enticing easy to make recipes to set the mood for falling in love. Recipes include Caviar Puffs, Venetian Oysters, Peruvian Duck and Blueberry Maple Mousse. Susan’s book can be bought at Ottawa bookstores, including Books on Beechwood; Perfect Books, on Elgin Street; Octopus Books, on 3rd Avenue, in the Glebe; and Singing Pebble, on Main Street. Olive Dickason.
The long awaited biography of Olive Dickason, Changing Canadian History: The Life and Works of Olive P. Dickason, has been published. Written by Darren Préfontaine, editor, researcher, and author at the Gabriel Dumont Institute’s Métis Culture and Heritage Department, in Saskatchewan. Once it is possible to do so the Media Club will host a book signing and reading in Ottawa for Darren.

Ainalem Tebeje, author of My Love Story in Broken English, has written a sequel to her first novel. It will be published by Baico Publishing. Stay tuned for the publishing date.

Jagjeet Sharma.
A second anthology about the pandemic has been published. The book, was produced by Jagjeet Sharma and the Ethnic Media Forum (OEMF). Like the 2020 anthology, COVID–19 Chronicles, which the Media Club co-published with the OEMF, it also contains submissions from some Media Club members. A booklaunch will be held when possible at Ottawa City Hall in 2022.

A book review of a children’s book, Baarack the Lost and Found Lamb, appeared in the December issue of Vistas community newspaper. The book, written by Ottawa author Colette St.-Denis is a true story about a little lamb that became separated from his flock in Australia and was lost for five years before being rescued.
