Our 2020 Melba Lent Woeflé Award winner, Katelin Belliveau, has returned to Ottawa and is working toward an M.A. in journalism at Carleton University. She says her thesis will be a 30-minute podcast about language death in Canada – specifically about the case of the French Acadian dialect, Chiac. That is Katelin’s mother tongue and she adds that “it has a riveting history and ongoing battle to be legitimized and preserved in a shrinking population and an ever changing landscape of languages.”
